03. Insurance availability for people living inside and outside the US for 6 months

questionHi,

How is the "living outside the US for at least 6 months in a year visiting the US" part determined?

Thank you,
Amy

questionDear Amy,

We tried to speak over the phone and could not continue due to bad connection.

We have plans for people visiting US and US residents traveling outside of the US. There are plans that provide worldwide coverage including and excluding the US.Some plans restrict the purchase if a visitor has been living in the US for more than 6 months without prior insurance.Other plans do not have any arrival time restriction at all.

The way it is determined is when you fill out the online application while trying to buy the plan.

Let me know if this answered your question?

questionHi,

My wife and I, both seniors need advise on the type of policy I should get. I am travelling from New York to Toronto, Canada by Greyhound Bus on Wednesday, December 17, 2019

Thanks and best regards,
Imran

questionDear Imran,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for travel health insurance to Canada

Travel Insurance covers for any unexpected sickness and injury while you are outside your home country. Unexpected medical/hospital related expenses including emergency evacuation and repatriation is covered by travel insurance. This covers baggage loss, baggage delay, trip interruption as well. But if you need cover for trip cancellation then you need to buy trip cancellation insurance which is slightly different from travel insurance but also covers all trip related costs along with some coverage for medical related expense as well. Here is the difference between Travel health insurance and trip cancellation insurance: For you, travel insurance would be suitable. 16. Health Insurance for international travel from the US

questionHi,

I am leaving rather urgently for Spain on Feb 1. I have a one-way ticket for now but plan to return on the 21st or 23rd of February. I will not stay for the entire month.

I simply very urgently need to find an affordable travel health insurance coverage plan to ensure I am safe wihle there. Anything that covers sudden reoccurange of existing conditions and also medical evacuation (that is like a ride to the ER>=?) and ER visit would be most everything I need.

I would say an option for help with replacement of prescriptions, should our luggage be lost or stolen at any point in the trip...but that seems unlikely. it does seem concerning though that you have to hang on to all prescribed medicine you came with, when there are many options for medicine to be lost on trips, which could present a dangerous situation.

Anyway, can anyone call me to find am affordable program?

Thanks,
Lauren

questionDear Lauren,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your international travel insurance needs!
Here is the link to our product page on our site: Atals International

You can get all information by seeing the Atlas travel insurance brochure. You can buy the Atlas insurance policy online.

This policy is very popular with international travelers and has many excellent features. In particular, their coverage of "acute onset" of pre-existing conditions up to the maximum of the plan for medical expenses and an additional $25,000 for emergency medical evacuation can put your mind at ease. The plan will not provide coverage for regular prescription drugs to existing ailments. It does satisfy Schengen visa requirements and you can print out the visa letter if needed from the client zone about 45 minutes after your purchase.

This plan covers the lost checked luggage charges which is $500 limit per certificate period not subjected to deductible and coinsurance.

Please have a look at the Atlas America Insurance brochure for the more information.

questionDear customer support,

I am interested in purchasing a travelers and medical insurance for my parents who will be visiting the USA and Canada on Tourist visas. I would like to confirm if the "Insurance Coverage" "ALL INCL USA" includes both USA and Canada?

Thanks!
Dennis

questionDear Dennis,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your US visitor health insurance needs!
for your travel health insurance needs! That is a great question which, naturally, has a slightly complicated answer.

The short answer is that YES, most plans which cover the US also cover outside US as well, so that choice "ALL INCL USA" will give you those plans. The slightly complex part of the answer is that you generally pay more if you are visiting the US. Depending on the timing of the trips you might want to consider two policies: one to cover days in the US and one to cover while outside. This assumes that they won't be crossing back and forth between borders (or the purchasing process gets time consuming).

If you want a specific quote, please give us dates (while in US and while outside), ages of your parents and let us know if they have any preexisting medical conditions that you are worried about while they are traveling. We can work out a few options for you so you can compare prices between splitting up the trip or purchasing one policy for their whole voyage.

25. Travel Health Insurance for short term visitors

questionHi,

Please find details below

  • Nationality : Indian
  • Temporary resident : Canada
  • Departure : Canada
  • Arrival : India

Primary destination should be india or canada?

Please address the best plan.

Thanks,
Thanseer

questionDear Thanseer,

Thank you for contacting us for your insurance needs. The Patriot insurance plan offered by IMG iis specifically designed for short term visits and also covers some for baggage loss and trip interruption. You must put India as your destination country and you must purchase at least 5 days of a policy, although it will not cover you in India.

This company has recently made a new policy which covers "acute onset of pre-existing conditions" for persons under 70 years of age. That policy is called Patriot America Lite plus and is in all other ways the same as the Patriot America Lite policy.

Here is an alternate comprehensive plan in case there is any difficulty in purchasing the above plans:

This plan covers both US citizens and Non US citizens coming to the US. This provides full pre existing condition coverage and covers up to the age 99 years.

Feel free to call or email us with any questions or comments you may have.

Thanks,

questionDear Fatima,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your international travel insurance needs!
with your inquiry. You are certainly free to purchase insurance for yourself (or he can as well) for your trip to Greece. For your trip to Europe here is the policy we suggest that satisfies Schengen state consulate requirement:

After you have purchased the plan and when you get your certificate number please go to the following Website : ID-Card
- You will be taken to a page that requests your certificate ID and date of birth. Enter this information. (the page also asks for a password but you can ignore this)
- You will then be entered in to your account. Look for a link 'Visa Letter'. You must print this out (it is a PDF file) and take it with the rest of the policy documents to the consulate.

You can review all your options and prices here:

questionHello,

I'm trying to buy a plan from your website.

I'm a visiting scholar from Turkey. I'm going to come to the US and stay there for 9 months. I've decided on Plan B. But when I tried to buy, it ask me my destination country" which is not relevant in my case because it is obvious that I'm coming to the US. Which country should I choose in that step? Here is the link where I was asked for the destination. buy immigrant secure insurance

and secondly, can I give a US address as mailing address because I will be on my way to there in one week.

Best regards,
Pinky

questionDear Pinky,

You will have to put down "United States" for your destination country. It is not obvious since these policies can be used anywhere outside your own home country. Unfortunately, choosing the US makes it more expensive, but there's no getting around that problem. Please select "United States" and continue with the application. You should be able to make the purchase without a problem from wherever you like.

Regarding the pre existing conditions: Pre existing condition is a condition in an individual that exists before the coverage becomes effective. When a policy provides coverage for pre existing condition it means that only the unexpected emergency situation that is due to the pre existing condition will be covered but not all cases. Routine doctor visits and check ups are not usually covered.

questionHi,

I have purchased Visitors Care plan from IMG and it is effective since Sep 17th 2013 and I have been renewing it every month. But this time it is allowing me to renew only until Sep 17th 2014 and not further. Can you please help?

Thanks
Muffaq

questionDear Muffaq,

Thank you for your renewal yesterday! We contacted IMG and as per that your plan Visitors Care has a max policy time period of 2 years until which it can be renewed. But when you are in the 11th month of your policy and want to renew it further, it will let you renew it for only a month since they want you to complete the 12 month period and then you can continue renewing further for one more year. That is the reason why you were allowed to renew until Sep 17th. You can now go ahead anytime to the below renewal link and renew it further for your preferred end date.

  • If a person is over 65 and has purchased Patriot America Lite before 30 days after arrival in the US for one month and let the plan lapse, does the person qualify to purchase it again?
Thank you!
Dandan

questionDear Dandan,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your international travel insurance needs!
Here are the answers to your questions we spoke about over the phone:

Patriot America Lite:
  • If some thing happens in the first month of coverage, will that be treated as pre existing in the second month of renewal.
Answer: No. If you renew the current plan before it expires it would not be treated as a pre existing condition. If however your old plan expires and you purchase a new Patriot America Lite plan then yes, it will be treated as a pre existing condition.
  • If a person is over 65 and has purchased Patriot America Lite before 30 days after arrival in the US for one month and let the plan lapse, does the person qualify to purchase it again?
Answer: No. If the person has let the plan lapse and if it has been over 30 days and the person is over 65, they do not qualify to purchase the plan again.

Travel Medical Choice plan from Seven Corners:

Does outpatient include Urgent Care and emergency room treatment?
Answer: Yes, it is same for everything.

Can I buy 2 plans at the same time and use them?
Answer: No, you cannot be over-insured, and therefore cannot buy two plans at the same time for the same coverage. You can however buy two complementary plans where the secondary plan supplements coverage which is not offered in the primary plan.

Please let us know if we can help you in any further.

questionHi,

I'm booking medical insurance through your site. i have found a policy with Patriot America Lite which suits me needs.

I am a UK citizen , and i will be visiting the USA from June 7th to oct 1st. Although a UK citizen, i will be arriving from and returning to Indonesia, after my time in the USA, ie not leaving from and returning to the UK.
I have booked travel insurance a couple times with you before and i was told this does not matter, however as i am filling in the online form for the insurance policy, it does not give me an option to change the 'leaving from' and 'returning to' box, giving only the option of 'leaving from' and 'returning to' home country.

Does this matter?
will it affect my coverage?

questionDear Sir / Madam Srinivas Gumma

I am interested to buy Visitor Secure plan from WorldTrips for my 74 year old mother. I have some questions. Can you please clarify them?

1. How does this plan work as far as PPO network is concerned? Do they have to visit a facility inside the network or can they go out of the network and receive coverage as there is no co insurance for this fixed plan?
2. Are the claims paid by direct billing or have they got to pay it first and get reimbursed?
3. If the money is reimbursed on whose name will it be reimbursed?
4. Are there any specific medical conditions you know of that might need a pre certification for this plan?

Thanks for your help!
Siva

questionDear Siva

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your international travel insurance needs!
Here are the answers for your questions:

1. How does this plan work as far as PPO network is concerned?
Ans: At WorldTrips we contract with the Coventry National Network, but members are able to see any provider they choose. It is obviously in their best interest to visit participating providers for repricing and direct billing purposes, but they would have coverage for covered expenses regardless.

2. Are the claims paid by direct billing or have they got to pay it first and get reimbursed?
Ans: We have direct pay capabilities with all of our plans, including VisitorSecure. With most claims incurred in the US we usually pay directly to the providers, especially if they are part of the Coventry National Network. In the event that the provider does not want to accept our promise to pay, we would reimburse the member for their expenses accordingly based on their coverage.

3. If the money is reimbursed on whose name will it be reimbursed?
Ans: If it is on a reimbursement basis, we would issue the reimbursement in the form of a check to the member directly. In the event the member prefers payment to another individual, or via another form of payment, i.e. wire transfer, those requests can usually be accommodated.

4. Are there any specific medical conditions you know of that might need a pre certification for this plan?
Ans:?The following expenses must always be Pre-certified: - Inpatient care -Durable Medical Equipment - any Surgery or Surgical Procedure - Computerized Tomography (CAT Scan) - care in an Extended Care Facility - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

However, they always recommend that their service department be contacted when in need of service so that they may assist with locating a participating provider, taking care of the pre-certification, and confirm their benefits. Of course, in the event of an emergency, there is a window of up to 48 hours after the service to receive the pre-certification. That pre-certification can also be done by a family member or representative if the member is unable to.

58. Health insurance plans for visiting New York on dependant Visa

questionHi,

I'm in New York, and my dependants will join me on September 14, so I'd like to purchase the insurance before...may I purchase it and go month by month payment?

Thanks
Magda

questionDear Magda

With the two policies I am going to recommend, you must purchase three months first in order to extend or renew those policies. After the first three months, you could then extend them month by month for up to 12 months total. After 12 months, you must purchase a new policy.

If your requirements are for a maximum PER INJURY/SICKNESS, then I recommend Visitor's Care through IMGlobal. Here are the links:

If your requirements are for a maximum PER POLICY PERIOD, then I recommend Patriot America Lite also through IMGlobal. Here are those links:

59. Travel health insurance plans for visiting USA

questionHi,

I bought a visitor's medical insurance for my mother when she was visiting United States for the period from May 7, 2011 to June 25, 2011. My mother is planning to visit again in December and stay for a couple of months. I was wondering whether it is legal to buy the same insurance again? I think at the time of purchase I read somewhere that it has to be at least 6 months since her last visit when she is eligible for it again. I could not find this information anywhere this time.

Thank you,
Maria Chinchevaya

question Dear Maria

It is perfectly legal to purchase the same policy. This is a Visitors Care policy and you can purchase it by clicking on the link below:

61. Clarification to add heart care and extend coverage

questionHi,

I wonder what should I do , if I want to add heart care and extend my coverage from 3/Jun/2012 to 5/Jun/2012 (when I am back to Australia).

Best regards
Kamaledin Razavizadeh

question Dear Kamaledin Razavizadeh

You can extend the coverage in the last month of your policy before it expires if you purchased at least 3 months of coverage the first time you bought it. You cannot, however, change the terms of the policy, merely extend the length of time covered in this way. If you want new terms for the policy, you can let your old policy expire and purchase a new one.
