Hello,
I am a US citizen living in Canada for 7 months. You had mentioned Geo Blue and IMG. However I have Parkinson's disease and need insurance to cover that. Do they cover that. Also, I have a question regarding renewal of the plan. If I buy insurance for some time and then need to renew, is there a new deductible amount that I need to meet?
Thank you,
Ben

Dear Ben,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your travel health insurance needs! Here are the details about what we spoke about over the phone: I am sorry, I do not have good news as far as coverage for Parkinson’s disease. Neither GeoBlue or International Medical Group will provide coverage for Parkinson’s disease. I also asked them that if you were eligible to any coverage which was not related to your condition but the answer was the same, that they would not cover it.
We are sorry for not being able to provide a better response.
To answer your question regarding the deductible while renewing the plan, IMG responded by saying it was one time deductible and is not considered again while renewing.

Please let us know if we can help you in any further.

Thanks!

Hello,
I’m visiting the US for 6 months, I want to buy visitor medical insurance, please can you help me in getting quotes for insurance plans and how much it would cost?
Thanks,
Kim

Dear Kim,
Before you get quotes for the insurance plans, there are some important aspects of insurance that determine the coverage and cost of an insurance plan which are as follows:
  • Visitor insurance is broadly classified as Fixed and Comprehensive plans.Fixed benefit or Scheduled benefits offer limited coverage and have specific benefit limits on medical expenses. These plans are cheaper compared to comprehensive plans which do not have specific limits and cover expenses up to the plan maximum. Review the differences between fixed and comprehensive plans to know more.
  • The next factor is the plan maximum, this is maximum coverage that a plan will offer to pay your medical expenses. Higher the plan maximum, higher will be the premium.
  • Deductible is amount you need to pay first before the plan starts to pay. Higher the deductible, lesser the premium.
  • Coinsurance is the percentage of amount the plan will pay after the deductible and the remaining you will have to pay. Only a few plans give you the options to choose the coinsurance.
  • Your age, travel dates will also affect the premium of the plan. Older travellers have to pay more and the coverage may be limited.
  • Some other important factors like special coverage for pre-existing ailments, maternity, adventure sports… also affect the price of the insurance.
  • If you need extra coverage you may have to pay more. For some plans these extra benefits are optional and may be expensive than the ones that do not offer these benefits.
You can review more factors that determine the cost of an insurance plan here:

Since you mention both the US and EU, you will need a plan to cover you in both locations. The below mentioned plan will provide coverage worldwide including US for you and your family. Make sure that you select the option "worldwide, including US" in the buy page of this plan.

Here is a plan that you can buy for you and your family:

Atlas Travel plan: You can get all the information about this plan and to buy this plan, please use the below BUY link -

Atlas America Logo      Plan Details      Buy Now      Brochure

This plan has a very good US PPO as well as a good international PPO network. Look here in this link for PPO info: PPO Network

Do you need a visa letter to visit EU? You should be able to enter the EU destination where you are traveling to and here is the Schengen visa letter download link for this plan in case you need it.

Question: What is PPO?

Answer: PPO(Preferred Provider Organization) is a type of health insurance arrangement that allows the plan participants to choose doctors and hospitals.

Hi,
I'm interested in doing an internship in New York City from the UK for 3 months. I have a mental illness and am on medication what kind of insurance do I need whilst I'm there?
Thanks,
Emma

Dear Emma,
You can purchase any visitor policy that we offer. However, no policy will cover your current medication; you should bring with you enough for your trip (I'm not sure our pharmacies will honor international prescriptions). The policies we offer are for sudden illness and/or accident while you are visiting with us.
Below is a general link to policies. The cost will depend upon your age, the maximum and deductible of the plan.

Dear customer support,
I am a Canadian national traveling to the US. When trying to complete the application I am unable to use my Canadian address.
  • Why am I unable to use my Canada address while filling the form, what is the reason for this limitation?
  • Is this Inbound Guest policy direct billing or is it reimbursement. The brochure seems to indicate that it is reimbursement, please clarify.
  • What are the alternate policies for our needs?
Thank you,
Shirley

Dear Shirley,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your travel health insurance needs! Here are the answers to your questions:
  • Issue with Canadian address while filling out the application form:
On the first page of the application form you were asked what state in the US to which you were traveling. They want THAT address in the next part of the application and that is why Canada does not appear on that list (they know you are traveling from there, not TO there). You will be able to put in your Canadian citizenship and a Canadian billing address as needed further along in the application form.
  • Reimbursement question:
The reimbursement depends on the provider you use. If they are willing to make the phone call to the insurance company, you will be able to get direct billing and only pay your deductible and your portion to the provider and the insurance company will pay their part directly to the provider. However, if they are not willing to make the call, then you may have to pay the bill in its entirety and submit a claim for reimbursement from the company. It usually takes 10-15 business days to get a reimbursement check from them. The claims form is relatively painless and available for download on our site. It is something anyone can fill out (don't have to be a doctor with special codes or anything).
  • Alternate policies:
You can use any of the policies which come up on our search engine. Be aware that the inbound policies are fixed policies and may not cover 100% of any medical bills. Comprehensive plans offer more complete coverage, but will be more expensive. If you can dovetail this insurance with a Canadian plan, then I would feel better about going with a fixed plan.
You can use this link: Older Traveler Plans
Play around with the maximum of the plan to get different options and be sure you enter the time you wish to be covered for since some plans are only available for a few months time.
Please let us know if we can help you any further.

questionHi,
I just purchased the Global Underwriters policy from your site, after inputting that I am a US Citizen but non-resident, visiting the USA for 16 days. But once I downloaded the policy it states eligibility is " benefits to Non-US citizens while traveling outside their Home Country to the United States. " - ??? I bought this from your site because I found it on their site but found their wording unclear, but now maybe I have the wrong policy. Please advise!.
Karla

Dear Karla,
Please note that the Diplomat America plan CAN be used by US citizens for short term travel to the US if they intend to return to their foreign address afterward.
So this is correct on the site although it is not fully obvious given the application form. They have updated their online forms .If you were able to simply purchase using "US citizen" then there's no problem. If you put some other nationality, then we will have to inform the company so that it is all correct on your application.
Hope this is helpful!

questionHi,
Say I have a policy of 100,000 $ coverage. I would like to know will the plan will cover the following medical expenses (occurred without admitting to the hospital):
1. Doctor visit.
2. Lab test/diagnosis.
and what is the maximum limit for different types of expenses?
Thanks
Regards,
Suman

Dear Suman,
The policy you have chosen, Atlas America, covers expenses for any sudden illness or accident. Covered expenses would include doctor visits and any lab tests prescribed or asked for by the doctor. The policy also covers "acute onset of pre-existing condition" up to the maximum of the plan, so any emergency due to a pre-existing condition for a person under 70 years old, would also be covered either in hospital or doctor visit. The maximum amount that the company will pay for medical expenses is the maximum of the plan (in your case $100,000). Medical expenses include hospital stay, doctor visit, medication, diagnostic tests, etc. And all medical expenses are subject to the one-time deductible and co-insurance amounts. There are a few other "pots" of money in your policy, specifically, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, and an accidental death/dismemberment benefit. These are in addition to the maximum although they cover only specific costs and situations.
Hopefully, this is purely academic and you enjoy a safe and healthy trip!

questionHi,
Looking for medical insurance for my 95 year old mother-in-law from England coming to the US for 90 days. Understand pre-existing conditions won't be covered.
She has been cleared to travel by her doctor. Also looking for the plan to cover the travel portion if available (ticket reimbursement if flights are delayed or she ends up not traveling.
Michael

Dear Michael,
You do have a few choices for travelers 90 years old and over. The maximum 'comprehensive' coverage you get is either $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000, while you can get more coverage with 'fixed benefit' plans.

To know the difference between fixed and comprehensive plans, please refer to - Fixed vs Comprehensive coverage

My recommendation is the following plan. Unfortunately, trip insurance as you mention is only available to US citizens or residents and so your visitor will not qualify for that plan.

Inbound Immigrant is available at $70,000 maximum and is an excellent fixed plan option. It has a good price and one of the best coverage for fixed plans. It is designed for persons with or awaiting green cards and can be renewed up to 5 years (although this is not a requirement). For a fixed plan, it has high coverage amounts and you can choose the higher deductible to save some money on the premium. Here are links to that plan:
Inbound immigrant Logo
To purchase the Inbound Immigrant plan, you can go directly to this site: Buy inbound immigrant insurance
If you'd like to look over the brochure, use this link: Inbound immigrant brochure

PPO Network (You are not required to use their network, but it facilitates direct billing and discounting in bills): Seven Corner's PPO network

Our comparison tool below will show you all available options. Please select "less than $25,000" for the maximum comprehensive plans that you can get. The $50,000 maximum coverage will show the fixed benefit plans. To use our comparison tool please go to - Visitors Medical Compare

When you are ready, you can use the links above to make your purchase. You will only need the insureds full name, date of birth and a passport number. The coverage is guaranteed and you can make it effective as early as the following day. Once you make your purchase, you will get a policy or certificate number.

Let us know if we can help you any further with insurance for your visitor. We wish you safe and happy travels!

questionHi,
I am travelling outside of United States for 5 months and I am US citizen. When I return to US, I will need coverage for a brief period of time which is 3 weeks. I am looking for a plan that can provide me domestic coverage as well as cover me outside of US. I was curious about GeoBlue plans. Can you let me know if GeoBlue has any options for me?
Thanks,

Dear Howard,
Thanks for contacting us with your insurance needs!
GeoBlue Explorer Premier provides world wide coverage. You will be covered both inside and outside of US with this plan. This is a medically underwritten plan, which means you need to get underwriting approval before your plan is issued.
By selecting a plan with specific deductible and depending on your US zipcode, this plan will charge you a monthly premium. For more information, please visit this link: Explorer Premier Insurance. Another plan that does provide domestic coverage is Atlas International. This plan provides 15 days of coverage in US for US citizens for every 3 month period of coverage outside of US. questionHello Again,
Thank you for your reply and providing me different options. I will check them out.
I have heard that insurance companies in USA sometimes don't pay back to you incase if any claims due to emergency for the visitors in Canada unfortunately. I would appreciate if you can please clarify on this before I decide to buy.
Please let me know the insurance company name through which this policy is covered (IMG?).
Best regards,
Pinky

Dear Pinky,
Thank you for contacting us for your travel health insurance needs! Thank you for reminding me of that. The plan I mentioned (Visitor's Care) is NOT for travel to Canada.
The plan that offers would be IMG’s (International Medical Group) Patriot America plan which is for persons traveling outside their home country. Here is a link for more information about this plan:

questionHello,
My brother is visiting me in US from Mexico and he will be participating in Marathon. Can I get a plan that will cover him for Marathon?
Thanks,
Alex

Dear Alex,
Thank you for choosing us for your travel insurance request. The only coverage available for marathon is the Diplomat America plan offered by Global Underwriters. This plan provides coverage for Marathon when the plan is purchased with the SPORTS RIDER included. While purchasing the plan you have to select the "Athletic, Sports and Hazardous Activity Rider" but do not pick any of the activities in the given options and proceed further.

questionHello,
I need some clarifications regarding your suggestions.
When u mention Inbound Guest plan for my wife and I from Seven corner for maximum coverage of $100000 is $ 100000 for each?
When u recommend Patriot Platinum daily premium rate is $14.87 compared with Inbound Guest from Seven Corner where daily premium for $100000 coverage is $6.50 or something.
What is the superiority of Platinum plan to justify such high premium? As I mentioned we want maximum available protection in the event of major sickness leading to hospitalization.
Thanks
Narendra

Dear Narendra,
Below is our response to your questions:
When u mention Inbound Guest plan for my wife and I from Seven Corner for maximum coverage of $100000 is $ 100000 for each?
Answer: Yes, each of you will have a policy maximum of 100,000 when you buy a combined policy. You may choose to buy a separate policy if you want to which will have two policy documents with separate policy numbers, but the coverage is identical if both of you are covered by one policy or two.
When u recommend Patriot Platinum daily premium rate is $14.87 compared with Inbound Guest from Seven Corner where daily premium for $100000 coverage is $6.50 or something.
Answer: Patriot Platinum by International Medical Group (IMG) is a "comprehensive" plan, therefore the cost is higher than that of the Seven Corners plan which is a "fixed" or ‘Scheduled benefits” plan.

What is the superiority of Platinum plan to justify such high premium?
Answer: Since Patriot Platinum is a "comprehensive" plan, it has a better coverage in terms of medical coverage. To learn more about the difference between "fixed" and "comprehensive, please find this link: Fixed vs Comprehensive Coverage.
As I mentioned we want maximum available protection in the event of major sickness leading to hospitalization.
Answer: If you are looking for better protection, then Patriot Platinum is the best option. It is a comprehensive plan and has the highest policy maximum available.

questionHello!
I need some help.
I am trying to find insurance for my parents who live in India. They are NOT US citizens. Ideally, I am looking for a comprehensive global health insurance plan that covers them in INDIA AND THE UNITED STATES and possibly OTHER countries they might visit for a period of ONE YEAR.
My father is 72 - good health.
My mother is 62 - type II Diabetes
I want as much coverage as possible.
Can you help?
Thank you,
Amanda

Dear Amanda,
We work with several health insurance companies to offer the largest choice of international health insurance plans. These plans will cover your parents globally (India, USA and in other countries). These plans are comprehensive in their coverage, but they need to be underwritten (the application is reviewed along with required medical documents), and the approval is not guaranteed.
The plan cost (or premium) will depend on:
1. Age of applicant
2. Maximum coverage requested
3. Deductible
4. Type of coverage (Fixed versus Comprehensive)
We have provided a friendly insurance comparison page at Global Travel Compare. In the above link you can compare various insurance policies, download policy brochures, obtain online quotes and also purchase plans.
Please also review our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section to understand the distinction between a "fixed benefits program" and a "comprehensive program". This information is at FIXED VS COMPREHENSIVE. Thank you for providing us an opportunity to be of service to you!

questionDear Sir/Madam
My wife (DoB 28 April 1953) and myself (DoB 11 March 1947) are planning to purchase a plan from below link for our visit to USA covering 3 July 2013 to 9 October 2013 travel medical insurance policy. From your web site, I understand that the cost for a policy of $100,000/- is $1273/- for the two of us. (In comparison, a policy of $100,000/- will cost $668/- if purchased only for myself). I would appreciate it very much if you can clarify whether the above policy costing $1273/- for the two of us will cover $100,000/- *per person* and *not* $100,000/- *together **for both of us*.
Arvind

Dear Arvind,
The policy maximum amount applies to each of the individual separately. So, if the policy maximum is $100,000 then it $100,000 for you and $100,000 for your wife. The premium or the price listed in the quote is the total for all the individuals on the policy.
Hope this helps!

questionDoes your travel medical insurance cover medications?
Ann

Dear Ann,
You would be covered for any medications prescribed for a covered illness, as you would any doctor visit, medical procedure, tests, etc. However, if you take medication regularly for some condition, these would not be covered. Travelers should carry enough medication to get through their trip (with extras just in case), if possible and be aware that prescriptions may not be accepted in the country they are visiting. Over the counter medications are not covered. Visitors may be able to take advantage of prescription savings at places like Walmart that offers many prescriptions for only $4 per month (they will need valid prescriptions, however).
Hope this helps!

questionI am a dual citizen with passports from Sweden and Israel. I’m planning a trip to the US for 15 days and then I will go to Israel for 10 days before returning to Sweden where I live and work. I have purchased the Patriot America plan. Will it cover me while in Israel or will I have to buy something else?
Issac

Dear Isaac,
The issue of dual citizens is a complicated one. The policies we sell generally are for travel outside your “home country” only. Most companies define your “home country” as where you principally reside AND where you have citizenship. However, you are in luck because the Patriot America plan offers a “return to home country” coverage which, for an additional about 5% to the premium price, would cover you for your entire trip from the USA and in Israel.
Happy travels!

question I am a US citizen, but I live in France. I am planning a visit for 3 weeks to the US. Do you have a plan that will cover me?
Jenny

Dear Jenny,
Most plans will NOT cover US citizens in the US. However, there are two plans which only consider where you live to be your "home country". You WILL be asked your citizenship and it will be a part of your application. However, so long as you reside outside the US and put this address down as your "home country" address AND you intend to return to that foreign address, these plans will cover you.

questionHi there,
I am booking medical insurance through your site. i have found an insurance policy which suits me needs.
I am a UK citizen , and i will be visiting the USA from June 7th to Oct 1st. Although a UK citizen, i will be arriving from and returning to Indonesia, after my time in the USA, ie not leaving from and returning to the UK. I have booked travel insurance a couple times with you before and i was told this does not matter, however as i am filling in the online form for the insurance policy, it does not give me an option to change the 'leaving from' and 'returning to' box, giving only the option of 'leaving from' and 'returning to' home country.
Does this matter?
Will it affect my coverage?

This will not impact your coverage in any way. You should enter the dates that you are in the USA (June 7th to Oct 1st).
Again you can compare quotes and buy the insurance plan using our compare tool: Visitors Medical Insurance Compare

questionI am in California and I am trying to buy an Atlas Travel Insurance policy. However, I get a warning message just before my purchase which says something like the insurance is not valid in California. Can I buy and use this insurance if my visitor is coming to visit me in California?

The Atlas insurance is good for anyone who is not a US citizen while visiting any state in the USA. This message (there for legal reasons) states (in legalese) that the State of California will not pick up any bills if the insurance company were to go bankrupt. This is an unlikely event and, anyway, the company is underwritten by Lloyds of London who has promised to pay out claims if that should happen. Don’t let that legal notice worry you, you have chosen a very good plan for your visitor(s)!

questionI would like to purchase insurance for my family members from Iran to come visit me in the US. Do you have any options for them?

Due to US sanctions, most companies will not sell insurance for Iranian citizens. There is one company that will sell on a case by case basis, particularly for persons visiting family here in the US. Please call one of our representatives and we can arrange for you to purchase a policy for them. Our number is +1 (877) 340 7910.

questionMy wife and I are interested in purchasing health insurance for our 3-year-old daughter to cover her during our upcoming visit to the United States. I notice that the policies limit eligibility to non-US citizens, no matter the covered individual's Home Country. In this case, our daughter has both US and Spanish citizenship; her home country is Spain. Would she be eligible for coverage? And to be clear, my wife and I would not be purchasing coverage for ourselves, only for our daughter.

Thank you,
Richard Browning

Dear Richard,
Thank you for contacting us for your travel health insurance needs! Your daughter is eligible to purchase any of our visitor insurance. When it is time to purchase the policy put your address in Spain as her "Home Country"
