  • Patriot Exchange Insurance Eligibility
    • Be an active Participant, Spouse of the Participant, or Children traveling with the Participant and residing outside his/her primary Country of Residence for a temporary period of time, and if Destination Country is the United States, Insured Person must hold one of the following visa types: F1/F2, J1/J2, M1/M2 or A1/A2
    • Be at least 31 days old but not yet 65 year old.
    • Be physically and legally residing in the destination country with the intent to reside there for at least 30 days on the effective date and at renewal.
    • Not be hospitalized, disabled, pregnant or HIV+ on the initial effective date.

      Patriot Exchange Plan satisfies J Visa (exchange student visa) insurance requirements and is popular with students from China and India. J2 and F2 holders can also buy this plan without J1 and F1 being on the plan.

  • Patriot Exchange Insurance pre-existing condition coverage
    • Pre-existing conditions:
      For condition existing within 36 months before effective date. After 12 months of continous coverage $500 per period of coverage; $1,500 lifetime maximum.
    • Sudden recurrence of pre-existing conditions (for US citizens):
      Medical - Up to $5,000 of the eligible expenses;
      Emergency Medical Evacuation - Up to $25,000 of the eligible costs and expenses

    • Charges incurred outside the US and canada - Company pays 100%
    • Charges incurred inside the US and canada - In PPO or Student Health Center - Company pays 100%; Out of PPO network (PPO network for Student Health Advantage Insurance ) - Company pays 80% of the eligible expenses up to $5,000; then 100% thereafter.
  • Optional Riders for Student Health Advantage Plan
    • The Traveler can purchase an optional rider at the time of application. The optional riders provide additional coverage for a minimal charge.

01. Which medical insurance plan works well for J1 and J2 Visa holders?

Some US health insurance plans require that the J1 Visa holder is the primary applicant for the J2 visa holder to be eligible. 02. What can happen if I do not satisfy the J visa insurance requirement?

The Department of State views health insurance as very, very important! The regulations require that your J program sponsor should terminate your status in the U.S. as a J visa holder if you willfully fail to comply with the J visa insurance requirement.
