Annual Travel Insurance Covering Trips in the U.S. and Abroad

person
Hi,
Is there an annual multi-trip travel insurance plan for U.S. residents that covers both international trips and trips within the U.S.?
Thank you,
Sasha
support_agent
Dear Sasha,

The Voyager Annual insurance plan offered by Travel Insurance Services is a great option for US citizens and/or residents with their own primary health insurance plan. This is the only annual multi-trip plan that will cover trips outside the US as well as 100 miles away from your home within the US. This plan will cover you for trip of up to 90 days (each trip). There are two levels of the plan SILVER and GOLD. The Silver plan has a fixed cost of $332 per year per person. The Gold plan is based on age with most ages costing below the Gold plan price (80+ are higher). The Silver plan covers up to $50,000 maximum for medical expenses and the Gold up to $250,000. The gold plan covers airline ticket change fee up to $200, trip interruption, and political evacuation, while the Silver does not have those benefits. Both cover baggage loss and delay as well as AD&D, repatriation, and emergency medical evacuation (the gold has higher coverage levels).

The Gold plan is priced by age, with most age groups paying less than the Silver plan (travelers 80 and older pay more).

Annual Travel Insurance - FAQs

The best annual travel medical insurance for seniors provides high emergency medical limits (up to $1,000,000), emergency evacuation coverage, and protection for multiple trips within a 12-month period. Popular options include Atlas Multi trip and Patriot Multi trip, available through American Visitor Insurance.
Annual travel medical insurance protects you against unexpected illness or injury while traveling. Annual trip cancellation insurance protects your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs if you must cancel or interrupt your trip for a covered reason.
Yes. If you travel two or more times per year, annual travel insurance is often more cost-effective than purchasing separate policies for each trip. For example, a plan like Voyager Annual provides coverage for an unlimited number of trips during a 364-day period under one policy. Buying one Voyager Annual plan for the year can cost less than buying multiple single-trip policies for each individual trip.
Some annual travel medical plans provide limited coverage for the acute onset of pre-existing conditions, depending on age and specific plan terms. Coverage amounts and eligibility requirements vary by insurer. For example, Atlas MultiTrip offers coverage for the acute onset of pre-existing conditions for travelers up to age 79 (subject to plan limits and exclusions). Seniors should always review the certificate wording carefully to understand age limits, benefit caps, and any exclusions that may apply.
Per-trip duration typically ranges from 30, 45, 60, or even 90 days depending on the plan selected. If a trip exceeds the allowed duration, coverage may not apply.
Yes. seniors over age 70 can buy annual travel insurance, but eligibility and benefits vary by plan. Some plans have age limits or reduced benefits for older travelers. For example:
  • Voyager Annual allows senior travelers of many ages to purchase coverage and provides multiple-trip protection throughout the year.
  • GlobeHopper Multi-Trip Senior is specifically designed for seniors (including those with Medicare) and offers broader medical coverage and emergency benefits for international travel outside the USA.

The best travel insurance for senior citizens depends on whether you need medical coverage, trip cancellation protection, or both. For year-round medical protection, Atlas MultiTrip and Patriot Multi-trip offer up to $1,000,000 in coverage with emergency evacuation benefits. For seniors who book expensive cruises or tours in advance, Safe Travels Annual Prime and Trip Protection Annual Multi-Trip are better suited, since they reimburse non-refundable trip costs. Many senior citizens combine both types of plans for complete protection.

Travel insurance for over 70 is a policy designed for older travelers, typically offering emergency medical coverage, evacuation, and repatriation benefits, with eligibility and pricing adjusted for age. Seniors over 70 can still purchase annual multi-trip plans such as Voyager Annual, though some insurers apply reduced pre-existing condition benefits or higher premiums above this age. Always check the maximum entry age listed for each plan before applying.

  • These plans provided coverage for unlimited international trips in a 12 month period
  • The maximum trip duration can range from 30 days to 70 days (GeoBlue Trekker)
  • These are ideal for businessmen and for work related frequent overseas travel
  • Some plans require a primary health plan, but cover pre-existing conditions and medical evacuation
The annual multi-trip policies we sell will last for one year starting from the start date. So, if you purchase a plan starting April 1, 2019, it will be in force until March 31, 2020.
Annual medical travel insurance is a great way for frequent travelers to get coverage while they are away from home and/or traveling internationally. It is convenient since you make a one time payment for a year's coverage. Most policies have a maximum number of days you can be covered consecutively. Note there is not a limit on the total number of days, just the number of consecutive days of coverage. This number varies by policy, but can be 30, 45, or 90 days.
There are several companies that offer best annual travel insurance plans for frequent travelers. The costs are very economical and the benefits are limited to mostly medical emergencies. The companies only cover US citizens or residents if they have their own private insurance. Most companies only cover you while traveling outside your home country. One policy will cover you while you are at least 100 miles away from your home, so can also be used for domestic trips (say, out of state) and can boost your own domestic coverage in some situations.
Regular international travelers should buy the annual travel insurance as it is cheaper than single trip travel insurance over the course of the year. With a one year travel insurance one can make several trips without any additional expenses for the entire year as long as each trip is within the trip period of the plan.
Seniors can buy the best annual travel insurance for seniors through American Visitor Insurance, a trusted US-based platform that compares annual and multi-trip travel insurance plans for seniors from top-rated insurance providers. It allows older travelers to easily compare coverage options, medical benefits, age eligibility, and prices in one place, making it simple to choose and purchase the right yearly travel insurance for seniors online with confidence.

What Is Travel Insurance for Seniors Over 70 and Over 75?

Travel insurance for seniors over 70 is built around the same core benefits as any annual plan — emergency medical coverage, evacuation, and repatriation — but with age-adjusted eligibility and, in some cases, higher premiums or capped pre-existing condition benefits. Most insurers still welcome applicants in their 70s; a smaller group of specialist senior plans extend coverage further.

For travelers specifically looking for travel insurance for seniors over 75, eligibility narrows but does not disappear. Plans such as Voyager Annual and GlobeHopper Multi-Trip Senior are specifically designed with senior travelers in mind, including those above 75, while plans like Atlas MultiTrip and Patriot Multi-Trip cap new enrollment at age 79. Always confirm the maximum entry age and any benefit reductions for your exact age before buying.
