My wife(60) and I(65) need to be in US as J1/J2 exchange scholars for 1 year starting 8th December 2015. During this time we would visit other countries in South America, Canada, Egypt... I am a 37-year old J1 visa holder (visa is from 10/1/2015 to 9/30/2016). I am living in Japan and will go to U.S. on 9/13/2015. I want to subscribe to the health insurance which covers the period from 10/1/2015 to 9/30/2016.
Could you make sure whether your plan meets the following conditions?
If you have multiple plans meeting the following conditions, please specify the plan with the lowest cost.
Required Coverage:
  • No overall maximum dollar limit for medical coverage
  • Annual deductible of no more than $500
  • Coinsurance that does not exceed 25%
  • Medical evacuation coverage must be at least $50,000
  • Repatriation coverage must be at least $25,000
  • Pre-existing conditions must be covered with no waiting period or exclusions or dollar limits
  • Maternity must be a covered benefit
  • Mental Health and Substance Abuse services must be a covered benefit
  • Preventive Care & Wellness Services must be covered with no cost (includes immunizations and screening tests)
  • Prescription drugs must be a covered benefit
  • Carrier must be at least A- rated or backed by the full faith and credit of the Exchange Visitor's government

Study USA insurance - Frequently asked questions

01.  Does Study USA Insurance cover covid illness?

Travel Insure Covid19 travel insurance by Study USA Insurance for coronavirus coverage will cover eligible medical expenses resulting from COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2. Eligible medical expenses are medically necessary expenses that are not subject to another plan exclusion.

02.  How do I get the college waiver form for Study USA?

After purchasing Study USA insurance, please fill in your portion of the information in the college waiver form and sign it. The form has to be sent to Travel insurance Services either though fax at (610) 537-9851 or through email it to susa@travelinsure.com. Travel Insurance Services will complete the form and fax it back to the school within one business day.

03.  Can I buy Study USA if I am already outside my home country and studying?

Yes, you can buy Study USA insurance as long as you satisfy the eligibility requirements.

04.  Can the Study USA insurance plan be renewed?

Yes, the Study USA plan can be renewed up to a period of 4 years as long as the eligibility requirements are satisfied.

05.  How do I renew my coverage?

06.  While renewing the Study USA plan, can an eligible dependent be added?

Yes, an eligible spouse or child can be added to the plan while renewing it.

07.  How does the insurance cover my expenses whether I treated in the student health center, inside a PPO network or outside PPO network?

For Non US students in USA

Treatment at the student health center can enjoy the in-network benefit.

Treatment within the PPO network - Expenses are covered at a lower deductible and coinsurance than when you get treated outside network.

The student can also visit any doctor or hospital by contacting the Emergency Assistance Company who will help you find a doctor or hospital.

For US students studying outside USA

Treatment at student health center or any doctor or hospital can enjoy the in-network benefit.

If treated at a student health center first can waive the deductibles.

PPO Network

08.  Are pre-existing conditions covered by Study USA?

Yes, pre-existing conditions are covered after a waiting period of a minimum of 6 months

09.  Is pregnancy covered by Study USA?

Yes, pregnancy is covered if the conception occurs after the plan effective date.
No coverage for pregnancy of the dependent child.

10.  Does Study USA cover travel outside US?

Yes Study USA offers worldwide coverage for students outside their home country.
For every 3 months of coverage, Study USA offers 15 days of coverage in the home country.

11.  What are the hospitalization expenses that must be pre-certified?

The following expenses must always be pre-certified:

  • Inpatient care
  • Any Surgery or Surgical Procedure
  • Care in an Extended Care Facility
  • Home Nursing Care
  • Durable Medical Equipment
  • Artificial limbs
  • Computerized Tomography (CAT Scan)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Maternity
  • Newborn care
12.  If there are no in-network doctors or hospitals in my area, where can I get the treatment?

You can use an out-of network doctor or and out-of network benefits will be paid.

13.  If there are changes in my policy how do I get it corrected?

The corrections can be sent to susa@travelinsure.com, or by fax or mail and they will confirm the corrections.
