What Is a Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Waiver?

Most travel insurance plans exclude losses caused by pre-existing medical conditions. A Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Waiver removes this exclusion for eligible travelers, allowing coverage for a covered trip cancellation or interruption resulting from a pre-existing condition affecting you, a traveling companion, or a family member, provided the plan's eligibility requirements are met.

Travel Insurance Select Elite includes this waiver as one of its valuable Early Purchase Benefits, helping protect your trip when coverage is purchased within the required time frame.

How to Qualify for the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Waiver?

To qualify for the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Waiver under Travel Insurance Select Elite, you must generally meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Purchase your plan within the required eligibility window - Buy the plan within the specified number of days after making your initial trip deposit or payment (the Early Purchase Period).
  • Insure your full trip cost - Cover all prepaid, non-refundable trip expenses under the policy.
  • Be medically able to travel - At the time you purchase the plan, you must not be disabled from travel or under a physician's care that would prevent you from taking your trip.

If you purchase the plan after the Early Purchase Period, you can still receive the standard travel insurance benefits. However, you will not qualify for the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Waiver or other Early Purchase Benefits, such as Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) and Interruption For Any Reason (IFAR), if offered by the plan.
