ExactCare Extra is Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection's premium-tier trip protection plan, purpose-built for U.S. travelers who fly frequently and want the highest level of medical and travel disruption coverage available in the ExactCare series. It combines the strongest medical limits in the lineup $75,000 emergency medical and $750,000 medical evacuation with a suite of flight-specific fixed benefits that no other BHTP plan in this series offers.
Key HighlightsThe defining feature of ExactCare Extra is its automatic flight tracking capability: when you add your flight details before departure, BHTP monitors your flights in real time and can automatically process fixed benefits for qualifying tarmac delays and flight departure delays without requiring you to manually submit a claim. This makes it the only largely hands-free travel insurance option in the BHTP portfolio for flight-related disruptions.
ExactCare Extra is not for everyone it's designed for a specific type of traveler. Understanding who benefits most helps you determine if it's the right choice or if a different BHTP plan suits you better.
These benefits are exclusive to ExactCare Extra not available on ExactCare Value or ExactCare. They are the primary reason to choose this plan over the others in the series.

This is the most technically innovative feature in the BHTP lineup, and it's exclusive to ExactCare Extra. Here's exactly how it works step by step.
Before your trip, log your flight details into the BHTP system. Their platform monitors your flights in real time throughout your journey. When a qualifying delay event occurs such as a tarmac delay of 2+ hours or a flight departure delay of 2+ hours the system automatically detects it and processes the corresponding fixed benefit without you having to manually file anything.
Auto flight tracking, $75,000 medical coverage, $1,000 tarmac delay benefit all in one plan backed by Berkshire Hathaway's A++ rating.

ExactCare Extra provides $75,000 in emergency medical coverage (secondary coverage) and $750,000 in emergency medical evacuation. These are the highest medical and evacuation limits in the ExactCare series higher than ExactCare Value ($15,000 medical / $150,000 evacuation) and ExactCare ($50,000 medical / $500,000 evacuation). Note that the coverage type is secondary meaning it pays after your primary health insurance. Despite being secondary, the $75,000 limit is higher than ExactCare's primary $50,000 limit.
Automatic flight tracking is exclusive to ExactCare Extra. Before your trip, you register your flight details in the BHTP system. BHTP then monitors your flights in real time. If a qualifying delay event occurs such as a tarmac delay of 2+ hours or a flight departure delay of 2+ hours the system detects it automatically and processes the corresponding fixed benefit claim without requiring you to take any action.
For the tarmac delay, this means a $1,000 fixed benefit can be paid automatically. For the flight departure delay, the $50 fixed benefit can be paid automatically. This is the only BHTP plan with this hands-free claims capability.
No. The children-free benefit (up to 2 children aged 17 and under per insured adult) is exclusive to the standard ExactCare plan it is not included in ExactCare Extra or ExactCare Value. If you are traveling with children and want to include them at no extra cost, you should purchase the ExactCare plan instead.
This is an important difference. ExactCare covers missed connections up to $750 based on actual expenses (triggered after a 3-hour delay), which can cover additional hotel, food, and transport costs. ExactCare Extra pays a $100 fixed benefit for missed connections regardless of your actual expenses.
ExactCare Extra compensates for this with exclusive tarmac delay ($1,000 fixed) and flight departure delay ($50 fixed) benefits not available on ExactCare. If you frequently experience costly missed connections and want maximum reimbursement, ExactCare's $750 actual-expense benefit may serve you better for that specific coverage point.
ExactCare Extra provides secondary medical coverage. It pays after your primary health insurer processes eligible claims. This is different from the standard ExactCare plan, which provides primary coverage (pays first). Despite being secondary, ExactCare Extra's $75,000 medical limit exceeds ExactCare's $50,000 primary limit, so there is a tradeoff: more coverage but requires filing with your health insurer first. Travelers without primary insurance who prefer a plan that pays without requiring a separate claim process should consider ExactCare.
Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection offers a simple “Pic-and-Click” claims process, allowing you to submit claims online quickly. In many cases, claims are processed faster compared to traditional insurance providers.
Yes. Like all ExactCare series plans, ExactCare Extra includes a pre-existing medical condition exclusion waiver if purchased within 15 days of your initial trip deposit. The waiver covers both the emergency medical benefit and the trip cancellation benefit related to a pre-existing condition. Missing the 15-day window means pre-existing conditions will be excluded from coverage.
Yes. ExactCare Extra includes a 15-day free look period from the date of purchase. Cancel within 15 days before your departure date and before any claim has been filed to receive a full premium refund. If a claim is filed during this window, the cancellation right is forfeited. After 15 days, the policy is non-cancellable and non-refundable.
