Atlas Essential is for budget-conscious travelers, an Atlas Essential travel medical insurance policy provides coverage for the basic necessities as you travel outside of your home country. Atlas Essential insurance has two plans:
- Atlas Essential America insurance is ideal for visiting the US.
- Atlas Essential International Insurance is ideal for traveling outside the US.

Atlas Essential Insurance - Key Highlights
- Claims incurred in the US, there will be $200 emergency room co-payment for each use of the emergency room for illness unless you are admitted to the hospital. For claims outside the US, there is no co-payment. No co-payment for treatment of injury in emergency room.
- Claims incurred in the US, there will be $15 Urgent Care center co-payment for each visit and the co-payment is waived for members with $0 deductible. For claims outside the US, there is no co-payment.
- Emergency Medical Evacuation is covered for $500k lifetime maximum(Not subject to deductible, co-insurance or overall maximum limit).
- 79 years old turing 80 during the coverage period, Atlas Essential plan does not affect coverage as long plan is purchased at age 79.

An Overview of Atlas Essential Insurance
Eligibility
- Atlas Essential America: Available for Non-US Citizens visiting USA
- Atlas Essential International: Available for both Non US citizens and US citizens traveling outside their home country,excluding USA
Renewability
- Coverage is available from 5 days to 12 months.
- This plan can be renewed online.
Coinsurance
For coverage inside USA Atlas Essential insurance pays:
- Plan pay 100% of eligible expenses after the deductible up to the overall maximum limit.
Restrictions
The Atlas Series is not available to individuals who are physically located in the states of New York, Maryland, or Washington; or in the countries of Canada or Australia at time of purchase.
Cancellation
- Before effective date: Full refund of premium is available.
- After effective date: Only premium for unused whole-months, if paying in monthly installments, or unused days, if paid
in full, of the premium will be refunded; and
You cannot have filed any claims to be eligible for a premium refund.
A working example of using Atlas Essential travel insurance
Consider an example where your:
- Insurance coverage is $50k
- Deductible is $500 per certificate period
- Coinsurance for claims incurred within the PPO : The plan pays 75% of eligible expenses after the deductible to the overall maximum limit.
- Total medical expenses is $29,500
The Atlas Essential Insurance plan covers set amount up to a maximum of $50k. The insured must pay the deductible ($100). After that, the insurance company pays fixed amount as defined in the policy for specific treatment. In hypothetical case, the insured has to pay the difference between the amount insurance pays and the actual billed amount.
- Apply 75% coinsurance for medical Maximum: $29,500 i.e. $29,500*0.75 equals $22,125 company pays $22,125
- Apply 25% coinsurance for medical Maximum: $29,500 i.e. $29,500*0.25 equals $7,375 insured bears $7,375
