International Student Medical Insurance

For an international student, life in a new country can be quite an adjustment, but choosing the right medical coverage should be the easiest part. However it often is not, each University has its own list of requirements for the medical policies it will allow it’s students to take and that can be confusing. To help make your decision a little easier the American Visitor Insurance website has put together a list of plan features that you can compare in order to find the best plan suited for you. You can also compare the individual features of the various international student insurance plans by filling the online comparison form and clicking on the 'get quote' button provided.

All insurance plans offered on our website are underwritten by reputed insurers with an A.M. rating of A+. On purchasing the insurance, you will be provided with the international student medical insurance details that include a toll free number. To use the medical insurance, you should call the toll free number, and you will be guided on the process for direct billing, filing of claims, etc.

International Student Insurance - Summary of plans


Global Student USA Preferred & Global Student USA:


Eligibility:

This plan is only open to Non-US citizens seeking coverage outside their home country. The insured person must be a full-time student. Dependents are not covered.

Coverage:

Global Student USA Preferred: The coverage is based on a per injury or sickness basis. The policy maximum for one year is $250,000. For the first $5,000 of coverage the plan pays 100% of reasonable expenses after the deductible, for the remainder $245,000 of coverage the plan pays 80% of reasonable expenses, the remaining 20% must be borne by the student.

Global Student USA: The coverage is based on a per injury or sickness basis. The policy maximum for one year is $250,000. For the first $10,000 of coverage the plan pays 80% of reasonable expenses after the deductible, for the remainder $240,000 of coverage the plan pays 100% of reasonable expenses.

Deductible:

$100 per injury or sickness. $50 per injury or sickness if initial treatment is received at a Recognized Student Health Center.

Pre-Existing Condition coverage:

Pre-existing Conditions will be covered if the covered person has been on the plan for 1 year of continuous coverage.

Maternity coverage:

Reasonable expenses will be covered. Conception must take place during the plan period.

Dental coverage:

Repairs to a sound and natural tooth due to an injury will be covered up to $250 per tooth.

Treatment for Mental or nervous disorders or drug and alcohol abuse:

Inpatient treatment is covered for all reasonable expenses up to $5,000 maximum per lifetime. Outpatient treatment is covered for all reasonable expenses up to $500 maximum per lifetime.

Medical Evacuation:

Lifetime benefit up to $100,000

Repatriation:

Maximum benefit of $25,000

Study USA Healthcare:


Eligibility:

This plan is open to -
  • Full time students and their dependents who are Non-US citizens enrolled in a University in the USA.
  • Full time students and their dependents who are US Citizen, enrolled in a US school but pursuing academic activities outside the USA.

Coverage:

The coverage is based on a per injury or sickness basis.

Deductible:

$0 per injury or sickness if initial treatment is received at a Recognized Student Health Center. $50 per injury or sickness if treatment is received within the Multiplan PPO. $150 per injury or sickness if treatment is received outside the Multiplan PPO.

Pre-Existing Condition coverage:

Pre-Existing Conditions shall be excluded from coverage for a period of 6 months following the effective date of coverage under this program. A Covered Person must be continuously insured.

Maternity coverage:

The plan covers the pregnancy of an insured student or enrolled spouse if the pregnancy begins during the coverage period. It does not cover the pregnancy of a dependent child.

Dental coverage:

Repairs to a sound and natural tooth due to an injury will be covered up to $250 per tooth with a maximum of $1,000 per injury.

Treatment for Mental or nervous disorders or drug and alcohol abuse:

When treated as either as an Inpatient or an Outpatient the plan will pay the lesser of the URC charges incurred for the first 30 days of hospital confinement per program year OR 90% of the UCR charges incurred up to a limit of $5,000 ($10,000 for foreign students in the USA).

Medical Evacuation:

Maximum benefit of $30,000

Repatriation:

Maximum benefit of $10,000

StudentSecure Select & StudentSecure Budget:


Eligibility:

This plan is open to all students who are pursuing academic activities outside of their home country and their dependent.

Coverage:

StudentSecure Select: Certificate period maximum of $300,000, $50,000 for the spouse and $50,000 for a child.

StudentSecure Budget: Certificate period maximum of $250,000, $50,000 for the spouse and $50,000 for a child.

Deductible:

$50 per injury or sickness if initial treatment is received at a Recognized Student Health Center. $100 per injury or sickness if treatment is received outside a Recognized Student Health Center.

Pre-Existing Condition coverage:

Pre-Existing Conditions shall be excluded from coverage for a period of 12 months following the effective date of coverage under this program. A Covered Person must be continuously insured.

Maternity coverage:

The plan covers the URC charges for a pregnancy of an insured student or enrolled spouse if conception occurs after the effective date of the plan (subject to schedule of benefits). It does not cover the pregnancy of a dependent child.

Dental coverage:

Repairs to a sound and natural tooth due to an injury will be covered up to $250 per tooth with a maximum of $500 per certificate period. $100 maximum per certificate period for alleviation of pain.

Treatment for Mental or nervous disorders or drug and alcohol abuse:

When treated as an out-patient - $50 maximum per day, $500 maximum lifetime. When treated as an inpatient - URC charges up to $10,000 maximum lifetime.

Medical Evacuation:

$300,000 Lifetime benefit.

Repatriation:

Maximum benefit of $25,000.

Laison Student:


Eligibility:

This plan is open to all students who are pursuing academic activities outside of their home country and their dependent.

Coverage:

$250,000 Medical maximum, $50,000 for spouse/child.

Deductible:

$50 per injury or sickness if initial treatment is received at a Recognized Student Health Center. $100 per injury or sickness if treatment is received outside a Recognized Student Health Center.

Pre-Existing Condition coverage:

Unexpected recurrence of Pre-Existing Conditions are covered for US Citizens only for up to $500.

Maternity coverage:

Covered as any other illness. Conception must occur after the effective date of the plan.

Dental coverage:

Repairs to a sound and natural tooth due to an injury will be covered up to $250 per tooth with a maximum of $500.

Treatment for Mental or nervous disorders:

When treated as an out-patient - Payable at 80% up to $500. When treated as an inpatient - Payable at 50% up to $10,000 up to a maximum of 40 days.

Treatment for alcohol and drug abuse:

Payable at 50% up to $1000.

Repatriation:

Basic Short-term Travel Plan - $10,000 PER illness or injury. Lifetime Maximum of $500,000.

Standard Short-term Travel Plan - $50,000/$250,000/$500,000 PER illness or injury. Lifetime Maximum of $500,000.

Deductible:

$100 per injury or sickness.

Pre-Existing Condition coverage:

For US Citizens only. Sudden recurrence of a pre-existing condition for up to $5,000 of eligible expenses.

Maternity coverage:

Excluded from coverage.

Dental coverage:

Standard Short-Term Plan only - Coverage for injury due to accident of a sound and natural tooth up to $500. Treatment of sudden and unexpected pain to a sound and natural tooth up to $350.
