Travel Medical Insurance for European tourists

Tourists to Europe or Europe travelers can and often should purchase short term visitor medical policies to cover them in Europe to satisfy Schengen visa requirements. Health care costs in most European countries are quite high and hence, an international traveler must protect themselves in case of a medical emergency. This short term medical insurance will cover them in case of an injury sustained in an accident and in case of a new sickness. The healthcare provided includes medical expenses such as Doctors visits, hospital fees, diagnostic tests and medicines. At American Visitor Insurance, we work with all the best insurers who offer medical insurance for overseas visitors. By using our online compare facility you can select the plan best suited to your needs.

All Europe visitors insurance plans offered on our website are underwritten by reputed insurers with A.M. rating of A+. On purchasing the insurance, you will be provided with the medical insurance details that include a toll free number. To use the medical insurance, you should call the toll free number, and you will be guided on the process for direct billing.

Europe Traveler Health Insurance Plans

The monthly premium or cost of the Europe Traveler Health insurance plan depends on the following variables:
  1. The age of the traveler: The older the traveler, the more expensive the monthly plan cost
  2. The Maximum Medical Coverage selected: The options range from $25,000, up to $1,000,000, the higher the coverage amount, the higher the premium.
  3. The selected Deductible: A ‘deductible’ is the amount of the medical costs the customer pays before the insurance plan provides any coverage. Most plans provide several options ranging form $0 to $2500 (travelers over age 60 years may not have the $0 deductible option). The lower the deductible, the higher the premium.
  4. The Co-insurance on the plan: ‘Co-insurance’ is the percentage on medical expenses borne by the customer AFTER the deductible is paid off. This is relevant to comprehensive plans and is typically the 80/20 or 90/10. However most travel plans do not charge a co-insurance to travelers in Europe.
  5. The Insurance underwriter: There are different underwriters such as AIG, Lloyds, Nationwide, etc. Premium will correspondingly vary for different underwriter.
  6. Type of plan: There are two types of plans available:
    1. Fixed benefits – These plans have a list of medical benefits, over and above which the plan will not pay. While these plans tend to have lower premiums, the out of pocket costs (the cost borne by the customers that are over and above the fixed benefit) may be quite high.
    2. Comprehensive – These plans are more flexible than fixed plans and do not have fixed ceilings for various medical benefits. Because they provide more extensive coverage they also cost more.
